Nepali Congress leader Shekhar Koirala has said the upcoming government will be formed in accordance with Article (2) of the Constitution of Nepal.

He also complained that his statements spoken previously were twisted by the media.

“Different views are coming through media whether the next government will be formed in accordance with Article 76 (2) or 76 (3) of the Constitution,” said Koirala during a scholarship distribution program at a school in Jorpati on Tuesday , “There is no doubt that the next government will be formed in accordance with Article 76 (2) of the Constitution.”

While Article 76 (3) lays down a provision that the President will appoint the parliamentary party leader of the largest party represented in the parliament as the Prime Minister, a government will be formed by two or more than two parties according to Article 76 (2).

Nepali Congress and CPN (UML) have already agreed to form the next government under the leadership of KP Oli. On the other hand, Sher Bahadur Deuba is the parliamentary party leader of Nepali Congress, the largest party in the parliament.

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal is making preparations to take the vote of confidence on July 12. He has written a letter to the Federal Parliament requesting the latter to make preparations, accordingly.

Maoist Center leaders have claimed that if Prime Minister Prachanda does not secure the vote of confidence in line with 76 (2) on July 12, the next government will be formed in accordance with Article 76 (3) of the Constitution.

Koirala made it clear that he is not seeking the government in accordance with Article 76 (3).

“Media have twisted my previous statements. I want to make it clear that the next government will be formed in line with Article 76 (3),” said Koirala, “It will help create political stability in the country, ensure good governance and address the loopholes of the Constitution.”
