An earthquake has struck the western hilly district with its epicenter at Darma in Mugu on Wednesday morning.

According to the National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Center (NEMRC), Lainchaur, a 3.9-magnitude earthquake was recorded at 4:40 am.

Earlier, an earthquake measuring 4.4 on the Richter scale had struck the Taplejung district with its epicenter at Tapethok on July 10.

Small earthquakes have been occurring in Nepal of late.

Nepal lies in a fault zone as the Indian plate is constantly pushing against the Eurasian (Tibetan) plate, resulting in seismic activities in the Himalayan country, said Geographer Ganesh Kumar Jimee.
