Former Home Minister Lamichhane remanded to 7 more days in custody

The Kaski District Court has remanded former Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane to seven more days in police custody for investigation into his alleged involvement in the embezzlement of cooperative funds.

Lamichhane, who was arrested last Friday evening from Kathmandu for his alleged involvement in the misuse of cooperative funds, was taken to Pokhara the same night.

He was produced before the court on Sunday for extension of his remand.

A bench of Judge Chandra Kanta Paudel on Thursday extended Lamichhane's remand by additional seven days to keep him custody for investigation into the case, Suraj Adhikari, the information officer at the District Court, Kaski, told Nepalkhabar.

Earlier on Sunday, a bench of District Judge Nawa Raj Dahal remanded Lamichhane to six days into custody.

Lamichhane's business partner Chhabilal Banjade, who was arrested in connection with the embezzlement of funds from Suryadarshan Cooperative, is doing time in the same police custody.
