Supreme Court orders release of medical entrepreneur Durga Prasai

The Supreme Court of Nepal has ordered the release of medical entrepreneur Durga Prasai.

A joint bench of Supreme Court Judges Nahakul Subedi and Saranga Subedi issued the order of Prasain's release on Friday.

Hearing the habeas corpus writ filed by Prasain, the Supreme Court ordered the release of Prasain effective from today, Achyut Kuinkel, the spokesperson of the apex court, told Nepalkhabar.

A team of the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) had arrested Prasai from his Bhaktapur-based residence on November 19. 

The Cyber Bureau of Nepal Police had filed a ybercrime case against Prasai. Even though, Prasai was earlier released on a Rs 40,000 bail by the court, he was still doing time in custody.

The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police was carrying out investigation into him, this time for criminal gains.

Nirajan Prasai, the son of Durga Prasai, had filed a habeas corpus writ at the Supreme Court, demanding his release, arguing that he was taken captive illegally.
