CPN (Maoist Center) Deputy General Secretary Barshaman Pun has claimed that Nepali Congress leaders have brought a proposal to replace the current government led by KP Sharma Oli.
Speaking at an inauguration ceremony of the Maoist Center's Conclave held at Bhume Rural Municipality in Rukum East, former Finance Minister Pun said that NC leaders have brought a proposal to discuss a way out as the people are unhappy with the incumbent government.
"The BRI agreement was signed following the UML's ascent to power. Now they are trying to intimidate NC by saying that the communists should unite. How long should NC leaders tolerate it? UML Chair Oli is making a scandal every passing week, how many days will public tolerate it? They say," said Pun, "They want to discuss an alternative to the Oli-led government. However, we do not want a government trapped in a cycle of opposition, where the alternative to Congress is UML, and vice versa, ultimately, prioritizing the interests of middlemen. This is our commitment."
Deputy General Secretary Pun made it clear that Maoist Center will not participate in the government until the next 2084 general elections.
Pun said, "We will not join the government until 2084 general elections. We will advocate for people's agendas both in parliament and on the streets. We should stay outside the government to differentiate itself from the two dominant political forces, NC and UML."
He also claimed that the Maoist Center is garnering support in urban areas because of their good works. "People have given us a lot of votes in the by-elections, even in urban areas, because of the good jobs done by our Chairman Prachanda-led government and we raised the people's agenda when we were in opposition," Pun said.
Pun further charged that the government is consistently making one mistake after another. "We witness this in its interference against meritocracy at Tribhuvan University. Despite the Nepal Electricity Authority's commendable performance, the government continues to intervene, causing public dismay. That is why we stand firmly with the people, advocating for their agendas," said Pun.
