Chinese teams emerged victorious in most of the races in the second Nepal-China Dragon Boat Race 2024 which concluded in the Phewa Lake in Pokhara on Monday.
In the 200-meter and 500-meter final races held in Pokhara, Dongguan Lanwa Club of China secured the first place, winning trophies along with a cash prize of US$10,000, medals and certificates. The club covered the distance of 200 meters in 47:720 seconds and 500-meter distance in 2:04:47.
Similarly, Yunnan Minzu University secured second place in the 200-meter race by covering the distance in 48:220 seconds followed by Liaocheng University with a time of 50:830 seconds. In the same event, Normal University secured the fourth place clocking 51:160 seconds.
Similarly, Liaocheng University stood second in the 500-meter race by covering the allotted distance in 2:07:34 followed by Yunnan University with a time of 2:08:44.
The winning team of the 500-meter and 200-meter races were awarded US$5,000, while the runner-up received US$2,000 and the third-place team got US$1,200 along with trophies, medals and certificates. The other participating teams have been given US$ 500 each, the organizer said.
A total of 20 teams participated in the competition, jointly organized by the Gandaki Province Government, Pokhara Metropolitan City, the Chinese Embassy in Nepal and the Nepal Tourism Board.
Eight teams from China, one from Singapore and the remaining 11 teams from different parts of Nepal participated in the competition.
