Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that women representatives have played their active roles in establishing the relevance of local units by ensuring effective service delivery.

Prime Minister Oli said this at a program titled 'SHE LEADS ICON' organized by Kalpa Nepal to honor the women representatives in Kathmandu on Friday.

Lauding the women representatives for their contribution to ensuring effective service delivery in the municipalities and rural municipalities, Oli said, "The women, who could not rise above from the literacy rate in the past, have now ascended to the leadership positions of the state."

"This is a testament to the success of the political change. It has proven that women's active participation can drive societal change," said Oli, "Women are entitled to equal rights guaranteed by the Constitution of Nepal. What they have achieved so far is not adequate. Currently, the percentage of women people's representatives in the local level stands at 40 percent. This indicates a progressive trajectory. It should be increased it in the days ahead."

The ICON was provided to 27 women representatives and three best women representatives selected from the local bodies in the program.
