The common understanding forged by the key ruling partners – Nepali Congress and CPN (UML) on the Chinese project Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) has foiled the plan of those who want see the country unstable, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said.
"The alliance between the country's largest parties have helped forge a collective voice on issues related to foreign relations and assistance, thereby bolstering a national stance on the negotiating table," reads the political dossier submitted by Prime Minister Oli in the Central Committee meeting that kicked off on Sunday, "It has also foiled the plan of those forces willing to see instability in the country by creating division in the ruling alliance."
Oli has laid a special emphasis on the agreement reached between the two biggest parties on the BRI Cooperation Framework in his political dossier. "The BRI Cooperation Framework is very important for the development of the country," Oli said in his political dossier, "It, I believe, will help enhance connectivity, infrastructure, trade, transit and bring in foreign investment by removing the hurdles for Nepal posed by the landlocked geographical condition."
Stating that Nepal lacks investment for rapid economic development in the country, Oli believes that the BRI will help bring in foreign investment.
"Nepal is in dire need of investment. This investment is crucial for the country to successfully graduate from its current status as a least developed country and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)," reads Oli's dossier.
"Hence, we want to join hands with our development partners and bring in foreign investment for the development of Nepal, while keeping in mind the national interest and priorities," said Prime Minister Oli.
