The money orders and cashier checks collected by Embassy of Nepal in Washington DC has been looted in the United States.

According to a statement published by Washington DC-based Nepali Embassy on Friday, money orders and cashier checks collected from mobile consular service camps operated in Dallas, Austin and Houston of Texas from December 15 to 20 were looted by breaking into the embassy's parked vehicle.

The money orders and cashier checks were looted after breaking into the embassy's parked car at 12:03 pm (local time) on December 22 while officials were en route to Washington DC from Houston.

However, the embassy has not disclosed the total amount that has been looted. Service seekers had submitted money orders and cashier checks to the embassy for availing various services during the mobile consular camps held across Texas cities.

Shortly after the incident, the embassy notified the local security agencies and efforts are being made to recover the looted revenue of Nepal government.

Meanwhile, the Nepali Embassy has apologized for the inconvenience caused to service seekers and sought their cooperation in the course of investigation and recovery of the looted amount.

The embassy statement said, "The embassy is hopeful that all Nepalis, including service seekers, residing in the US will extend full cooperation in the process of investigating this incident that has occurred during efforts made to provide services through operation of mobile camps."

Moreover, the embassy also requested all service seekers to cancel money orders and cashier checks, if possible, which they submitted while availing services from the consular camps run in Texas.
