Nepal defeated Netherlands by 16 runs in the ODI triangular series of the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 held in Scotland on Tuesday.
Nepal restricted Netherlands to 220 runs while the latter was chasing the 237-run target. To restrict Netherlands, Sandeep Lamichhane and Nandan Yadav took 3 wickets each, giving away 39 runs each. Similarly, Lalit Rajbanshi grabbed 2 wickets while Karan KC and Khushal Bhurtel claimed 1 wicket each for Nepal.
Wesley Barresi's 36-run score was the highest for Netherlands. Barresi hit 3 fours off 60 deliveries followed by captain Scott Edwards with 30 runs off 47 balls while Michale Levitt contributed 27 runs. Similarly, Kyle Klein and Noah Croes scored 25 and 22 runs, respectively.
Likewise, Teja Nidamanuru and Roelof van der Merwe contributed 17 and 16 runs, respectively. The other batsmen were unable to score significant runs.
Earlier,invited to bat first after losing the toss at the Forthill Cricket Stadium in Dundee, Scotland, Nepal notched up 236 runs losing 9 wickets in the allotted 50 overs.
Aarif Sheikh topped the score with 84 runs including 7 sixes and 2 fours off 85 deliveries followed by Bhim Sarki and captain Rohit Paudel with 35 runs each while Kushal Bhurtel and Dipendra Singh Airee contributed 18 and 16 runs, respectively.
Basir Ahamad and Karan KC contributed 11 runs each, while Nandan Yadav scored 10 runs.
In reply, Paul van Meekeren grabbed the highest 4 wickets giving away 58 runs followed by Michael Levitt with 3 wickets. Aryan Dutt claimed 1 wicket for Netherlands.
Out of four matches played during its Scotland tour, Nepal has won three and lost one match under the World Cup League 2.
