General Secretary of the Nepali Congress, Bishwa Prakash Sharma, has stated that the issue of money reportedly found at the residence of party President Sher Bahadur Deuba must be investigated.
Speaking to journalists today at the Nepali Congress Makwanpur District Working Committee Office, General Secretary Sharma emphasized that the incident, where money was allegedly discovered at the party president's house, should be resolved through an investigation. He stated that the government must form an inquiry committee to investigate and ascertain how and where the money came from.
Sharma stressed that instead of following the propaganda circulated on social media, the government should initiate an investigation.
"Either Budhanilkantha (Deuba's residence) should clarify whether the money belongs to him or not, or the government should start an investigation," he said. "If illegal assets are found, everyone's property should be investigated. Even if they say they'll start with Bishwa Prakash, I'm ready. By saying this, I mean that the government must conduct an impartial investigation into my President's case, the gold case that was mentioned recently, and all matters that have come into public discussion."
The issue stems from a video that went viral on social media showing a pile of money burning when Deuba's residence in Budhanilkantha was attacked during the Gen-Z protests on September 9.
In addition to the investigation demand, General Secretary Sharma also informed reporters that the Nepali Congress will prioritize the Gen-Z in the upcoming House of Representatives elections scheduled for March 5.
"A 70-year-old candidate may also contest in an electoral constituency based on need, but the Nepali Congress will prioritize the Gen-Z," he stated.
The current political shift occurred after the NC-UML coalition government collapsed following the Gen-Z protests on September 9 and 10. An interim government led by former Chief Justice Sushila Karki was formed on September 12, and the House of Representatives was dissolved. Based on the recommendation of the newly appointed Prime Minister Karki, President Ramchandra Paudel dissolved the parliament on the night of September 12 and announced the election for March 5.
