The government has withdrawn the Social Media Bill which was sub-judice in the parliament.

A cabinet meeting held on Tuesday decided to withdraw the Bill registered by the previous government, informed Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal, who is also the government spokesperson.

"The government has decided to withdraw the Social Media Bill, 2081 from the federal parliament," said Aryal.

Former Minister for Communications and Information Prithvi Subba Gurung had registered the Social Media Bill, 2025 last year. Subba had registered the Bill in the National Assembly on January 28, 2025.
