The Nepali national women's volleyball team has secured a berth in the semifinals of the ongoing CAVA Women's Volleyball Championship 2026 in Kathmandu with its second consecutive win.
Nepal secured a place in the last four by defeating Maldives 3-0 in straight sets in the match held at the National Sports Council's Multi-Purpose Covered Hall in Tripureshwar on Sunday.
In the final match of the group stage, Nepal defeated Maldives 25-12, 25-9 and 25-20.
With the win, Nepal has topped the points tally with seven points followed by India with 5 points while Kyrgyzstan is in third place with 3 points. Maldives, however, could not add any points in the group stage match.
India and Kyrgyzstan will play in the final match of the group stage on Monday. If India loses in straight sets in that match, Kyrgyzstan will advance to the semifinals.
In the first match of the group stage, the home team Nepal was defeated by India in a 3-2 set. In the second match, they defeated Kyrgyzstan 3-0 in straight sets.
In the first match today, Iran defeated Sri Lanka 25-16, 25-13 and 25-11. In the second match, Kazakhstan defeated Bangladesh 3-0 in straight sets.
There will be three matches in the championship on Monday. Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will face each other in the first match and India and Kyrgyzstan in the second match. Similarly, Iran and Kazakhstan will play in the last match of the day.
Nepali team captain Niruta Thagunna was declared the Player of the Match today.
