In a significant boost for inbound tourism, the Government of Sri Lanka has officially introduced a free Tourist Visa facility for Nepali nationals, effective from May 25, 2026.
Under this new policy, Nepali citizens traveling to Sri Lanka for tourism purposes are now eligible to obtain a 30-day, double-entry Tourist Visa (Electronic Travel Authorization – ETA) entirely free of charge. Nepal is among 40 countries selected globally to benefit from this visa fee waiver.
The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Kathmandu announced the update through an official statement, emphasizing that travelers should finalize their paperwork before departure to ensure a smooth journey.
"Travelers are kindly advised to obtain the ETA prior to their arrival in Sri Lanka through the official website www.eta.gov.lk or by contacting the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Kathmandu," the embassy stated.
This initiative is expected to ease travel logistics and significantly reduce costs for Nepali holidaymakers looking to explore the island nation. For further details, queries, or assistance regarding the new visa protocol, the embassy remains open to providing support through its Kathmandu office.
