Amnesty International (AI) has stated that Nepal is among the countries in the Asia Pacific region that stifle freedom of expression and the right to organize.

Releasing a report on the state of human rights in the world on Tuesday, AI concluded that there has been no abatement in human rights violations.

The report has stated that the government continues to arbitrarily arrest and detain people who demand freedom in countries including India, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Thailand in the Asia Pacific region.

It also mentions that excessive forces were used to suppress people and groups demanding rights in the countries including Nepal.

Speaking at a public function of the report today, Bipin Budhathoki, chairperson of AI Nepal, said that all the governments of Nepal have continued to repress and behave unfairly.

The report has lashed out at the developed and powerful countries stating that they have shown double standards regarding human rights.

Speaking at the public program of the report, program coordinator Asmita Sapkota said that different countries have different views on the issue of human rights and have created a double standard when it comes to protecting human rights.

Women have been hit hard for the failure of the states to protect the rights of women which is highly regretted, states the report published by the AI.

According to the report, various countries are brazenly establishing double standards in the matter of human rights protection said.

AI releases a report on human rights worldwide on March 28.
