Somnath Giri elected president of Nepal Teachers Association

Somnath Giri has won the presidency of the Nepal Teachers Association, a sympathizer of the Nepali Congress. He defeated Gokarna Bahadur Baniya by seven votes to win the presidency.

Assistant Polling Officer Nabin Dhami informed that out of 607 votes cast, Giri got 305 votes while Baniya got 298 votes. Giri is considered to be close to the non-establishment faction while Baniya is from the establishment.

Similarly, Ilam Bahadur Shahi has been elected as the senior vice-president from the Giri panel. He defeated Birkha Bahadur Malla of the Baniya panel. Shahi got 333 votes against 266 obtained by Malla. 

Dhami said Gyanendra Bahadur Rawal has been elected as the General Secretary of the Teachers' Association.

He was elected General Secretary with 302 votes while his closest rival Meghnath Yadav received 288 votes.
