Former government secretary Sharada Prasad Trital has expressed discontent at the court’s decision to acquit political figures in the high-profile Baluwatar land scam.
Taking to social media in the wake of the court’s decision on Friday, Trital said, “Some political figures got a clean chit because the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority intended to defend them, even though they were guilty.”
The anti-graft body had not filed a charge-sheet against former prime ministers Madhav Kumar Nepal and Dr Baburam Bhattarai stating that the cabinet decisions do not fall within its jurisdiction.
Similarly, the Special Court has acquitted former Deputy Prime Minister Bijaya Kumar Gachchhadar, former ministers Dambar Shrestha and Chandradev Joshi arguing that ministers alone cannot be held accountable for a cabinet decision, exonerating the prime minister who chairs the meeting.
However, Trital expressed happiness at the court’s decision which ruled that the land belonging to Lalita Niwas seized by various individuals must be returned to the government.
