Sunsari’s Bhutaha Bazaar tense as Hindus clash with Muslims (video)

Security personnel fire 51 rounds of aerial shots

Bhutaha Bazaar in the Sunsari district remained tense throughout the day due to confrontations between two religious communities since Friday morning.

A huge number of security personnel have been deployed in the clash-torn area to take the situation under control.

The demonstrators have vandalized the office buildings of the Area Police Office, Bhutaha, the rural municipality and the police post. According to the District Police Office, Sunsari, security personnel fired 51 rounds of aerial shots in the course of taking the situation under control.

Two protestors have sustained bullet injuries, according to eye-witnesses.

Chief District Officer, Devraj Phuyal, said the situation is out of control in spite of imposing a prohibitory order in the area. The district administration office is trying its level-best to curb the situation.

After seeting the situation going out of control, a security meeting has been called. It is taking place at the DAO office. The representatives of the political parties are taking part in the meeting.

The security personnel have warned that they will resort to firing if the situation goes out of control, further. The demonstration is gradually spreading to the other parts of the towns including Gautampur, Devgunj.

The DAO Sunsari has clamped an injunction in wards 1 and 2 of Devgunj and all the wards of Harinagar Rural Municipality.

The tension flared after the Muslim people thrashed a youth from Hindu community on Thursday. The injured youth is undergoing treatment in Dharan. His condition is out of danger, said the police.

In protest of the incident, people from Hindu community took to the streets since early morning today.

The assaulted Hindu youth had posted a video containing statements defaming the Muslim religion. He was reportedly assaulted for posting this video.

Despite injunction imposed by the DAO, people are arriving to participate in the demonstration from outside districts.

Both Hindu and Muslim people have been taking their stand on the incident, said CDO Phuyal.
