In the ongoing case involving the seizure of whopping 61 kilograms of gold, the District Court, Kathmandu has ordered the detention of 16 individuals for pre-trial investigation. This comes after a week-long hearing in the second phase of the indictment.
The court, presided over by Judge Kapilmani Gautam, also sought hefty bail amounts for three individuals already in custody. The court demanded a bail of Rs 5.7 million for Premnath Sedai, alias Raju Thapa, and Rs 9.6 million each for Tharkman Lama and Rupan Bhandari.
This is the second phase of the case, which involves a total of 60 defendants. Some of the accused were arrested in the first stage and are languishing in prison as investigations continue.
The total sum claimed against all the defendants amounts to a staggering 266 billion 670 million 909 thousands 308 rupees.
The charges against them range from violating Customs Act to Crypto Currency regulations and Nepal Rastra Bank acts.
