A flashflood has occurred in Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality-5, Thame, of Solukhumbu district on Friday.

Chief District Officer of Solukhumbu, Devi Pande Khatri said a massive flashflood has taken place in Khumbu region without confirming whether it was triggered by an avalanche or the glacial lake outburst.

According to CDO Pandey, a squad of security personnel has fanned out to the incident site. “It is yet to be confirmed whether the flashflood was caused by the glacial lake outburst or the avalanche,” she said, “Some physical infrastructures have been damaged, according to an information. It is yet to be verified.”

The flashfloods have swept away three houses and one hostel. “We are informed that three houses and one hostel were washed away by the flashfloods,” said CDO Pandey.

The incident site lies in a remote village which takes around four to five days to reach on foot from district headquarters Salleri.

“We are standby with a helicopter. We have not sent the chopper due to inclement weather,” she told Nepalkhabar over the telephone.

The Dudhkoshi River, which flows bordering Solukhumbu and Khotang, has been swollen with murky waters, washing away some houses and cowsheds, locals have said.
