Thame flashflood: 14 houses washed away including school; 7 houses at risk

More than 14 houses have been washed away by a flashflood that occurred at Thame village in Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality-5 of Solukhumbu district on Friday.

According to Chief District Officer of Solukhumbu, Devi Pandey (Khatri), one clinic, one school, one hostel, seven houses and seven hotels have been damaged. Similarly, the flashflood that struck at 1:45 pm has posed risk to seven other houses.

“The level of water in the Dudhkoshi River has receded to some extent,” she said, “We are trying to send a helicopter. But the weather is getting more adverse.”

A team of Nepali Army is carrying out rescue works. Another team of Armed Police Force is reaching the incident site soon.

The level of water has gone up in the Dudhkoshi River due to the flashfloods. It flows between Solukhumbu and Khotang.

The swollen river is likely to cause damages to the settlements on the coastal areas of Khumbu Pasang Lhamu, Mapya Dhudhkhoshi Rural Municipality, Sotang, Thulung Dhudhkoshi and Necha Salyan Rural Municipality, said the police.
