Three female students from the engineering department have consumed poison at Bardibas Municipality-11 in Mahottari district.
One among those who consumed poison has passed away. According to Raman Mehta, the principal at Nirmal Lama Polytechnic Institute, Mahottari, three students were found unconscious at Maisthan jungle.
"Three female students from the engineering department were found in an unconscious state in Maisthan jungle. They were taken to Bardibas-based Subhaswostik Hospital for treatment. One among them breathed her last in the course of treatment," Mehata said.
The deceased is Rinku Sharma, 16, of Dhangadhi Municipality-10, Siraha, said Mehata. A medical examination conducted at the hospital confirmed that they had consumed poison.
The other students who consumed poison are Usha Pandit, 17, of Manara Shiswa Municipality-2, Mahottari, and Sanju Yadav, 19 of Dhangadhi-11, Siraha. They are undergoing treatment.
The police said they are carrying out investigation to determine what led them to consume poison. According to an unconfirmed source at the school, they consumed poison apparently after they could not score good marks in their class tests.
It is learnt that the trio, who left the school for a visit on December 30, were found unconcious apparently after consuming poison in Maisthan jungle, according to the police.
Students from around 28 districts study at this technical school, said Mehata.
