Two Nepali nationals who were held captive by the Ukrainian army for nine months have been rescued.
According to the information given by the President of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA), Dr. Badri KC, 29-year-old Phurba Sherpa of Tehrathum and 39-year-old Sher Sambo Sherpa of Dolakha, who were taken hostage by the Ukrainian army for nine months, have been rescued.
They had reached Ukraine on a three-month student visa through an education consultancy in New Delhi after being lured with a lucrative job in Ukraine by a broker.
According to the President of the NRNA, KC, they had been in the MCC Detention Center in Mykolaiv, Ukraine since last May. They were taken to Moldova by the Ukrainian army on Wednesday and released.
Now, with the help of the NRNA, they will arrive in Kathmandu from Moldova on Friday afternoon by a flight number TK274 of Turkish Airlines, the NRNA President said.
According to President KC, they had been in the MCC Detention Center in Mykolaiv, Ukraine since last May. "They were taken to Moldova by the Ukrainian army on Wednesday and released. Now, with the help of the NRNA, they will arrive in Kathmandu from Moldova afternoon by a flight of Turkish Airlines on Friday," informed KC.
