The Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) University in Bhubaneswar, the capital of the Indian state of Odisha, has taken action against its five staffers over the death of Nepali student Pakriti Lamsal.
According to the notice mentioned on X by KIIT University, the college administration terminated two security staffers and suspended two senior hostel officials and one senior administrative officer of the International Relations Office (IRO).
"Two security staffers were terminated immediately. Two senior hostel officials and one senior administrative officer were suspended pending through enquiry," KIIT stated in a press note issued this morning.
The college said its staffers have been persuading the students to return to the campus as soon as possible.
Nepali students are upping the ante demanding justice and an impartial investigation into the case after Prakirti Lamsal, a third-year B.Tech student from Nepal studying at KIIT University, was found dead in her hostel room under suspicious circumstances on Sunday evening.

This KIIT's action comes in response to the protest staged by the Nepali students demanding justice for Prakriti.
Earlier, a group of Nepali students were assaulted by a group of security staffers as soon as they returned to the hostel after staging the demonstration, according to Ritesh Sah, one of the Nepali students.
Taking to social media platform X, Ritesh wrote, "This morning, after we returned to the hostel from our protest, the hostel was sealed. Soon after, the college dean, police officers in civilian clothes, and a large number of guards, along with local goons, stormed into our hostel. They forcefully entered the rooms of Nepali students, dragging us out and beating us brutally... they forced us into buses and drove us about 40 km away from the college. We were dropped off in separate, unknown locations, completely helpless. Nearly 15 people, including the college dean, security head, staff, and police officers, were involved in beating us. All we wanted was justice. We protested peacefully without breaking any university rules, yet this is how we were treated in return…"
