The Nepali Army celebrated its 262nd founding day, which coincides with Mahashivaratri, by holding various programs across the country on Wednesday.
A special ceremony was held at the Army Pavilion, Tundikhel, with the display of martial arts, a Shivaratri parade, a cannon salute, a drill and fireworks.

President Paudel offered a floral tribute at the Army Memorial at the Army Pavilion on the occasion. A banner of Army Day was displayed and flowers were showered from a helicopter along with the national flag.
President Ram Chand Paudel, Vice President Ram Sahaya Prasad Yadav, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, government ministers and high-ranking government officials were present on the occasion.
The Nepali Army has been involved in UN peacekeeping operations since 1958. Nepal ranks first in the list of countries deploying troops for peacekeeping.
