Tehrathum Sarokar Samaj has felicitated Mohan Kumar Dangi for his election as the senior vice president of the Independent Power Producers Association, Nepal (IPPAN) on Monday.

Dangi, who was invited as the chief guest of the program, is also the incumbent chairman of the Samaj.

At the program organized at the Office of the Tehrathum Power Company, office-bearers and members of the Samaj congratulated Dangi for his election as the senior vice president of the IPPAN and wished him a successful tenure ahead.

Expressing his views after the felicitation program, Dangi said what he has become now is the success of the Tehrathum Power Company.

"There is no option but to export electricity to make Nepal prosperous. This is the field where over 12 trillion rupees have been invested, the highest investment ever, and plans are underway to increase investment up to 25 trillion rupees in the near future," said Dangi.

Dangi further said, Nepal sold 452 megawatts of electricity to India last year and earned around 11 billion rupees. "If Nepal is able to sell 10,000 megawatts, we can earn around 8 to 9 trillion in a year, and our earnings will reach the size of Nepal's fiscal budget if 20,000 megawatts are exported."

Extending messages of congratulations, Pitambar Timsina, the advisor to the Samaj, said the entire country is currently facing a financial crisis and the hydropower sector has not remained unaffected by it. "Amidst these challenges, you have taken up this responsibility. I am confident you will do your best to bail the hydropower sector out of the present crisis," said Timsina.

Congratulating Dangi on his election to the senior vice president of the IPPAN, Dilliram Dhungel, the senior vice chairman of the Samaj, said one has to seek his own role and position himself, recalling the past when Dangi joined the Samaj as the vice chairman.

Dhungel further said (that) there are many challenges and risks involved in the IPPAN. "Dangi has been elected as the senior vice president owing to his own caliber and qualifications," said Dhungel, "He, as the senior vice president, has huge responsibilities before him and I am confident that he will bear these responsibilities successfully."

Similarly, Vice-Chairpersons Haripati Lal Shrestha, Chiranjibi Khatiwada, Ganesh Ghimire, Deputy General Secretary Yogendra Kurumbang among others extended their congratulatory messages to Dangi and wished him a successful tenure. Chaired by Senior Vice Chairman Dhungel, the program was run and emceed by Keshab Bhattarai, the General Secretary of the Samaj.

The 21st annual general meeting of the IPPAN on June 15 elected a 25-member new executive committee led by Ganesh Karki in which Dangi was elected as the senior vice president and Balaram Khatiwada as the General Secretary unopposed.

According to the statute of the IPPAN, the senior vice president will automatically become the president of the organization in the next term.

The newly elected executive body of the IPPAN will last for three years (2083 BS).
