Medha Secondary School, a community school at Tekhapukhu in Bhaktapur Municipality, has achieved, as always, astonishing results in the Secondary Education Examination (SEE) of 2079 BS.

Out of 90 students who appeared in the SEE held this academic year, three students secured GPA 4, 60 students obtained 3.65 to 3.95 (A+), 24 students received 3.25 to 3.6 (A), and three students got 3.15 to 3.2 (B+), according to Shyam Hada, the Principal of the School.

Talking to Nepalkhabar, Shyam Hada, said this result has been achieved due to the combined efforts of teachers, students, and parents. "Medha Secondary School has yielded excellent results in the SEE of 2079 BS. This has been possible due to the combined efforts of teachers, students, and parents. I would like to congratulate all the SEE graduates and expect the same cooperation from all sides to keep up the academic excellence in the days ahead, too," said Hada.

Medha School took a new lease of life after late Principal Gangadhar Hada took charge as the vice principal on February 17, 2004. Due to his constant dedication to the school, this school managed to top the charts of community schools in the Secondary Education Examination (SEE) result in 2075 BS, eight years after he took charge as the head of the school.

Despite having topped the charts of community schools in the SEE results of 2075 BS, none of the examinees had achieved GPA 4. "Late Principal Gangadhar wanted to see this school to have scored at least one GPA 4. Unfortunately, he passed away six months ago while on the road to shoot the school to stardom. How happy he would have been if he were alive at this time when three of his students have achieved GPA 4," said Syam, the younger brother of Gangadhar.

In an interview with Nepalkhabar, Gangadhar had said, "Teaching should be taken up as a social service rather than a money-minting profession. The principal has an important role in creating an effective environment for the school. If he/she wants to improve quality education, he can bring drastic changes in the field of education."

Recognizing for his commendable contribution to the school, the government conferred Prabal Janasewa Shree Award, Shiksha Puraskar on Gangadhar as being the principal of Medha School. He had played an instrumental role in transforming an ordinary community school into the best school of the nation leaving behind all the private schools.

Yogendra Pokharel, an English teacher at the school, said the teachers worked even harder around the time of SEE as a tribute to late Gangadhar Sir, to keep up his dream alive, which resulted in such outstanding results. "Three students scored GPA 4. It's sincere tribute to the departed soul. Gangadhar Sir would be happy up in the heaven," said Pokharel.

This School had received a cash prize of Rs 300,000 along with a medal and a letter of appreciation for becoming the top government school in 2075 BS.

In the SEE exams of 2078 BS, out of 107 students, 20 examinees got through the Iron Gate with A+, 52 A, 20 B+, 10 B and 5 with C score from this school.

Medha School is the leading example that has disseminated a positive message throughout the country that community schools also can impart a high level of quality education.
