Rare snow leopard found in Terai kept at Jawalakhel Zoo (photos)

A snow leopard, found at Charghare in Urlabari Municipality-1, Morang on Tuesday, has been kept at Jawalakhel Zoo in Lalitpur.

Wildlife experts and conservationists were shocked to spot the rare wild cat in Urlabari of hot Terai region. The snow leopard is normally found at an altitude of 2,000 to 6,000 meters while Urlabari of Morang is 146 meters above sea level.

“The male snow leopard found in Urlabari, Morang has been kept at Jawalakhel Zoo. It was found at a bamboo grove in Charghare. Its left rear leg is limp,” said Shyam Kumar Singh, the senior ecologist and information officer of the Depart of National Parks and Wildlife Conservations.  

The snow leopard is found in the mountain range stretching from Mt Kanchenjunga in the east to the Api Nampa Conservation Area in the west in Nepal.
