Security tightened in Valley as Holi picks up steam (photos)

With Holi, the festival of colors, picking up momentum, security situations have been tightened in the Kathmandu Valley since early morning today.

Joint security checks are being carried out in over 90 places of the federal capital to make Holi festival safe and disciplined and to preempt any untoward incidents, said SSP Bhupendra Khatri of District Police Range, Kathmandu.

The festival which is also known as Fagu Purnima is celebrated in the hilly and mountainous regions of the country today. It is celebrated among family members, friends and colleagues and near and dear ones by smearing colors at each other.

The celebration of the Holi festival is believed to strengthen friendships, intimacy, and bonds between people by dispelling past feuds and misunderstandings.
