Chinese leaders have urged former President Bidya Bhandari, who is currently on a week-long visit to China, to initiate unity among Nepal's leftist parties.

During a dialogue program with neighboring political parties held in Beijing on Monday, Liu Jianchao, head of the International Department of the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), offered this suggestion to Bhandari.

According to Karna Bahadur Thapa, a standing committee member of CPN (UML) who participated in the program, former President Bhandari was the chief guest of the event. Following the program, Jianchao and the delegation led by Bhandari engaged in a bilateral meeting that lasted for about one and a half hours.

During the discussion, the Chinese leader addressed Bhandari as a senior politician of Nepal and urged her to work toward the unity of Nepal's leftist parties within the framework of the people's multiparty democratic principle propounded by the late leader Madan Bhandari.

"China gave her high-level respect, honoring her as a senior politician of Nepal," Thapa told Nepalkhabar from Beijing. "The Chinese leader suggested to unify Nepal's leftist movement within the principle of people's multiparty democracy and lead the country toward stability."

Secondly, the Chinese leader also advised taking the initiative to maintain unity between Nepal's leftist and other political parties. Thapa said, "He also urged her to take the lead in uniting all parties and leftists for Nepal's development and prosperity."

The Chinese leader emphasized that they are committed to implementing the agreements between Nepal and China, expressing hope that Nepal would create a conducive environment for this. Thapa informed that China has also expressed confidence in Nepal's political parties.

"He said that Nepal’s political parties represent the hopes, trust, and faith of the Nepali people," said Thapa, "He expressed confidence in their ability to deliver."

The event saw the participation of politicians and diplomats from 42 different countries. UML leaders Raghubir Mahaseth and Karna Bahadur Thapa also delivered presentations, representing Nepal.

Former President Bhandari, along with Industry Minister Damodar Bhandari among other UML leaders, led the delegation visiting China.
