Nepali Congress has decided to field Central Working Committee member Govinda Bhattarai as a candidate for the by-election to be held at Tanahun-1 on April 23.
Tanahun 1 lay vacant after NC senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel, who was elected as a member from this constituency in the general elections on November 20 last year, became the president on March 9.
Party President Sher Bahadur Deuba has already directed Bhattarai to make necessary preparations for the by-elections for this constituency.

A meeting of the office-bearers held at party president Deuba’s resident in Dhumbari on Saturday decided to field Bhattarai in this constituency to this effect, sources have said.
Bhattari is the ninth president of the Nepal Student Union, the student wing of the Nepali Congress.
He was elected as the CWC member of the NC from Deuba panel in the 14th general elections.
