The meeting of the Constitutional Council held this morning could not make a recommendation for the appointment of the Chief Justice.

National Assembly Speaker Ganesh Prasad Timalsina, member of the Council participating in the meeting, said, "The decision will be taken in the next meeting."

The Supreme Court has been without leadership for the past 14 months, i.e. it is under the acting Chief Justice.

Hari Krishna Karki is the acting Chief Justice of the Supreme Court after the then Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher Jabara resigned from the post due to impeachment.

It was said that the Constitutional Council meeting would likely decide on the appointment of the Chief Justice.

Leader of opposition party KP Sharma Oli, Speaker Devraj Ghimire, National Assembly Speaker Ganesh Timalsina and Deputy Speaker Indira Rana are members of the Constitutional Council chaired by the Prime Minister.
